(It is intended that this outcome be integrated throughout the course by using sliding, rotation, construction, deconstruction, and puzzles and games such as Tetris, Rubik’s cube, Blokus, chess, checkers, Backgammon, Mastermind, Tic-Tac-Toe, Connect Four or Five, Battleship, and Cathedral World).
  1. Determine, explain, and verify strategies to solve a puzzle or to win a game such as:
    • guess and check
    • look for a pattern
    • make a systematic list
    • draw or model
    • eliminate possibilities
    • solve a simpler problem
    • work backwards
    • develop alternative approaches.
  2. Observe and analyze errors in a solution to a puzzle or in a strategy for winning a game and explain the reasoning.
  3. Create a variation on a puzzle or a game, and describe a strategy for solving the puzzle or winning the game.
